King Garage Door Cones & Cables

SAFETY NOTES:
The spring may be under tension. Please follow the below instructions carefully to avoid injury.
Wear protective gloves and eye protection. Two persons may be required for this operation.
Important:
BOTH cables must be replaced as the spare cables may be a different length to the originals. If only the broken cable is replaced the door may not operate correctly.
All work is carried out from inside of the garage.

Step 1
Reduce the spring tension by rotating the spring axle shaft to allow some slack in the cables then securely clamp the spring shaft (‘mole’ grips are suitable) to stop it rotating. 

Step 2
To remove the cable from the spindle you need to remove the screws at the base of the jamb channels and, if fitted, the screws holding the brackets halfway up. 

Step 3
Remove the hollow roll-pin from the cone using a Cone Roll Pin Punch. 

Step 4
Both old ones and hollow roll-pins should be removed and discarded. 
The new cones are marked left and right on the cone itself. 
Reassemble the new cones and pins, ensuring the cables exit from the top. 
Attach the cables to the spindles. Check they do not block or interfere with the door arms or jamb channels. 
Reinstall the jamb channel screws. 

Step 5
Remove the “slack” in the cables by rotating the spring axle shaft. 
Ensure that the cable runs in the top grove of the cones, then you can remove the ‘mole’ clamps. 

Step 6
Use our Multi-purpose garage door oil (WS410) to oil roller spindles, spring bearings, and spring and repeat every 12 months to help prolong the life of the items.
